Reviewed on www.techniekwebshop.nl·A.I.
I wanted to extend an existing 220 circuit in my house with more outlets. There were about a dozen wires within the box that I wanted to extend, and I had no good way to figure out which ones were the ones I wanted without taking off all the wire nuts, measuring, and switching all breakers on and off. Instead I got this kit, turned the relevant circuit off, hooked the toner up to the outlet, and found the right wires in 10 seconds. No need to touch anything, or switch any circuits off except the one that I needed. Great time saver, super easy to operate. The signal was crystal clear (admittedly it only had to travel maybe 75 feet) and there could be no doubt whatsoever regarding which wire was carrying the signal. Initially I thought to get the Pro3000F60 noise-filtering probe - in hindsight there was no need for it so I'm happy I saved the money.

If you can't find your cable with this, it is not the fluke's fault. I love this tool. I traced wires under subfloor and in attic, from inside the house. Practise on a extension chord first, so you know how it behaves. The wand have a spare sensor inside where the battery is. Noone stated that in reviews before, do o just wanted to say that. If you have break in the line, this tool can also find where. I used it on power cables. Hook it only to black wire, as the white is all over the house connected and the wand will pick up everything. Based on the 60hz humm you will be able to tell if the wire you are next to is powered or not. Trace only wires with no power in it. If you touch the sensor directle on a wire on the other side, the tone is super strong, so if you have multiple wires in the box , you know which one is the right one. Minder

This is the a good kit and is a must in the cable game. The smart tone is real helpful when the tone bleeds to other cables. just make the positive and negative touch to change the tone. If it changes then that's the cable you are looking for. Only thing I would do is reinforce the part where the cables come out the grommet from the tone generator for HEAVY USE like I do. It helped me figure out what Verizon did to my house wiring! We started getting a "hum" on our phone lines when I was away on a business trip. My wife called in a tech from Verizon. Not only did he not fix the problem, he disconnected the phone line to working receivers! So I needed a device like this to figure out what was broken and try to piece together my phone lines. The Fluke kit has a RJ11 connector for easy testing of phone lines and I was able to figure out what was disconnected. The only thing that I wish it had was a RJ45 connector for network troubleshooting. The work around is to use a CAT 5 (or CAT 6) cable with the other end stripped and use the alligator clips. Other than that it works well.

It works as advertised, of course! It's a Fluke! I have never been disappointed with Fluke products. Multi-meters to Toners they do a great job. The noise filter feature is awesome, especially when working through bundles of cables. It also has a very nice feature to allow one person to operate. With most tone generators you will get tone bleed-over, making it difficult to tell which cable you want to identify, however this one has a feed back feature that lets you verify the one you think it is by shorting the pair together thus changing the tone. This continuity check verifies you have the correct cable, without having to walk hundreds of even thousands of feet back to the generator.

This tool is amazing, I should have bought one years ago. I work at a hotel that opened in 1963, so you can imagine the refurbishes and years of changes that this facility has gone through. I was unsure if the tones would get the exact set of wires in a bundle, but I was simply amazed at how accurate and quick this tool really is. To then find the ground as easy, unhook your bundle inside the wire and touch them to the hot and the tone disappears when the proper ground is found. Saves a ton of time. What a relief to find a tool that works as advertised. Fluke is a great brand name, this is one of their excellent tools that is extremely affordable and very user friendly.

After having our basement finished I discovered that an outlet on the floor above was dead. I spent a couple of afternoons searching for the cut cable with an inspection scope through the can light openings in the basement ceiling and soffits. (The contractor had suggested cutting into the new sheetrock, which I really didnt want to do). But because of all the HVAC lines I really couldnt see much. With the Fluke toner I was able to find the problem in 15 minutes. The changing tones are clear and the signal is strong from a foot away through drywall. Its worth every penny!

I purchased this tool because I had nothing like it. I could not find a wire in a truck wiring loom. I used this tool to confirm the wire I was looking for did not exit in the wiring loom. So I had to run a new wire. This tool has a lot of power and can or will inject tone (bleed) in adjacent wires. While the tone in adjacent wires is not as strong as the wire it is attached to, it can be a bit confusing if the actual wire that is being identified at one end, is the same wire at the other end. Using the tool and gaining some experience with will be helpful.

I had to replace a dead outlet. After wiring the new outlet, the receptacle tester was indicating an open neutral condition. I wasn't sure which way was up stream of the line. I connected the tone generator to the line and used the probe which was able to detect the tone through the drywall, and was able to trace it to the source, to find the neutral wire detached from the wire nut. I used the push connectors to re-terminate the wires, and was back in business. This is a nice kit to have!

I have had tone generators before. Standard equipment for Telecommunications technicians tracing cabling. This is as good as I have ever used. In fact better with the different tone cycles. I used it to take some electrical wire that was not identified. The timeI saved today justified the purchase. Time will tell if it last but I see no reason why it would fail if treated properly.

This tool is a great asset in any technician's tool bag. It is comprised of two items, a tone generator and signal tracer. The audible signal, genrated by the tone generator, is adjustable with the capability to travel over long distances through individual wires. The frequency of the signal can be set either fast or slow. Great troubleshooting tool!

As soon as you get it cut the clips off . Far too large clamps and too heavy for telecom wiring . Plus when in use they are too easy to loop out accidentally due to weight and gravity . Put some smaller alligator clips on ( if you cant solder wire at this stage your not doing yourself a favour ) . Good Unit otherwise . Have plenty numerous of 9v batteries . The screws holding lid down are tedious when it should be just a slide click cover . Very loud if you are near a road or half deaf
