Here’s exactly how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. Spoiler: Each step is weird, amazing and beautiful! | The Dodo

Many caterpillars change their colors as they finish up feeding and prepare to wander off their host plants in search of a place to pupate. Often this means that green caterpillars flush with reds, yellows, or browns to match the forest floor. The tiger swallowtail goes from bright green to brown over the course of about three hours. This was our first attempt at a timelapse of this change, but I think we can do better in the future! | The Caterpillar Lab
