Here’s the view from Norfork Dam today. We’re currently releasing water through the spillway gates, siphon tube and hydropower generators. The total combined release is roughly 5,500 cubic feet per second. This is a non-damaging release. The spillway operation is aimed at improving dissolved oxygen levels in the downstream tailrace of the North Fork River. Five spillway gates at Norfork Dam were opened one foot at 7:30 a.m. this morning. These five gates will release approximately 4,700 cubic feet per second. Combined with hydropower operations, the total release will be around 7,700 c.f.s.
