🌞 📰 Sun news July 1, 2024: A calm sun day during solar max 😮 😎 It’s a calm Monday on the sun. So how can we tell on a day like today that the sun is still active? Even the active sun (near or during solar maximum) can have periods of calm. These periods can last days or even weeks. 🤔 On average, as we approach solar maximum, these periods of calm are shorter. One way to see the difference between the active and quiet sun is to compare images of the sun during these periods side-by-side. 🤔

This is the highest resolution image of the Sun’s surface ever taken. The National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope took the images from the summit of Haleakala, Maui, in Hawai‘i. In their announcement the organization wrote, "The images show a pattern of turbulent “boiling” plasma that covers the entire Sun.
